Today you can find a lot of imitation meat products in stores: sausages, bacon… The selection is huge!
A lot of them do not just have a contentious taste, but also questionable components.
It’s just scary to read the list of ingredients.
It is better to eat nothing than all these chemicals, believe me!
For me, I decided a long time ago there is nothing better and easier than tofu.
The beauty of tofu is that it has absolutely no taste and can become absolutely any flavor, by adding just a specific spice.
Today we are cooking an absolutely incredible tofu in a peanut orange marinade. The marinade not only creates a pleasant aroma but also makes the tofu very tasty.
It is easily cooked and the result is delicious! This tofu is not fried in oil but baked in the oven. Tasty and healthy. I guarantee you will like it!
Ready? Set? Let’s go cooking!
We will need:
1/2 pack of the toughest tofu (200 g)
For the marinade
1.5 tbsp. of agave syrup or brown sugar
1 teaspoon of fried sesame oil
1.5 tbsp. of peanut butter
1 tbsp. of lemon juice
3 tbsp. of orange juice
1.5 tbsp. of soy sauce (I use liquid aminos)
Red pepper to taste
Preheat the oven to 205C / 400F.
Squeeze the liquid out of the tofu. Many recipes recommend actively squeezing water out of dense tofu, but my experiments have shown that such an extreme is simply not needed. It is enough just to squeeze out a little of the liquid. Cut the tofu into cubes.
Some cooking experts advise frying the tofu before marinading, but I do not support multiple processes and I can tell you that my tofu comes out crisp without it.
Prepare the marinade.
Marinade the tofu. The longer it marinades, the better. I advise you to leave the tofu for 2-3 hours in the fridge.
After a while, the tofu will absorb the marinade and will be ready to bake.
Line the baking tray with baking paper and distribute the tofu cubes. Do not add oil. Tofu does not stick to the baking paper. Save the remaining marinade: you can pour it on the finished dish.
Bake for 20 minutes at 205C / 400F, then turn the pieces, lower the temperature to 165C / 325F and bake for another 20 minutes.
Make sure not to burn the tofu. Turn it over several times in the oven.
Done! Serve it with noodles or vegetables, or with both. I serve this tofu with brown rice or noodles and green broccoli.
Bon appetit!
